EarthDay 2022 | Dialogue between Science and Movements on Climate Justice
22 April 2022 marked the 53rd edition of World Earth Day, a day established in 1970 by the United Nations to highlight the importance of protecting natural resources. It is the most important environmental event, involving more than a billion people in 192 countries around the world every year. This year’s theme is #InvestInOurPlanet.
Following the strong statements made by UN Secretary General António Guterres and the scientific evidence reported in the IPCC’s sixth report, the message is clear:
“Act Now or Never” in a global partnership for a transition to a fair and just society free from fossil fuel energy.
The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Climate Justice and affiliated research groups wanted to organise a meeting to discuss together with the following organisations: Fridays For Future, Extinction Rebellion, Rise Up 4 Climate Justice and the Movimento per la Decrescita Felice about the current climate crisis and possible pathways towards a fair and just development that is not primarily based on the use of fossil fuels.
