World Geography Night 2022 is an event taking place worldwide on Friday 1 April 2022.
Since its first edition in 2018, World Geography Night (GeoNight) aims to highlight geography and geographers and to be able to give the general public the opportunity to become familiar with geographical concepts and studies, making geographical research more accessible to all.

This year the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of the University of Padua and the International Joint Master Programme on Climate Change and Diversity: Sustainable Territorial Development (CCD-STeDe) are actively participating in the programme with the aim of contributing to the dissemination and diffusion of geography and GIScience topics through didactic and scientific activities such as workshops and seminars.

The event we present in this news is:

Reforesting The Mind | Indigenous Vision For Climate Justice

21.00 – 23.00 pm (CEST)
14.00 – 16.00 (Rio Branco – BRA)
15.00 – 17.00 (Manaus – BRA)
16.00 – 18.00 (Belem – BRA)

Speakers

  • Joênia Wapixana | the first indigenous lawyer of Brasil and the first woman becoming Federal Depute in 2018;
  • Telma Taurepang | the coordinator of Union of Indigenous Women of the Brazilian Amazon (UMIAB), climate advocate and defensor of the forest

During this seminar we will have the pleasure of listening to the voices of these two women, activists, warriors who will share their fights against ecocide and genocide, defending the life and democracy not only of the indigenous land of the Amazon, but for all of Brazil and the world. Reforesting the mind means reforesting dreams, relationships, solidarity, centrality and the future.
“There is no solution to the climate crisis without indigenous lands and peoples”.
